Asbury Park, NJ the best the best the best!!! We are from out of town and in Asbury for a wedding. The entire wedding party and out of town friends came here to begin our evening before the wedding. We were given some tastes of beers at the bar, because we were unfamiliar with some and then ordered our drink. I am an Irish girl and I loved all of the Irish decor. Johnny Mac's atmosphere provides such a fun place to catch up with friends and enjoy spirits and good company!
I have been coming here for many years. Cheap beer, funny things on the walls. Free pizza, Friendly bartenders, outside bar summer or winter. There are games outside. They play hockey, basketball, football, soccer games on projectors, very good atmosphere.
There is free candy by the inner front bar. They have free omelette on Sundays! Probably one of my favorite bars in Asbury Park. Definitely recommend Friday night, and Saturday night if you're younger. During the day is also good for a beer or two. I always find myself at the biergarten in Asbury which is far more low-key and chill compared to here. We got there around Very eclectic decor and set up at this bar. There's a small downstairs area with chairs, table, and skeeball. There are train train tracks all around the ceiling with the train going around it.
Unfortunately it was too dark so I couldn't get good pics. I'll def have to visit again during the day when it's less busy. The outside area has beer garden so you can get your drink out there. With every drink you can get a ticket to get a person size pizza. The pizza is decent and freshly made. It moves quickly though. Along with the eclectic decor there an eclectic vibe. They don't seem to play music from the last five or so years. There was a lot of metal and punk rock from the aughts.
And this music is blasting throughout the place, so you'll have to yell hear one another. There are TV's scattered throughout playing the Olympics and other sports. I'm not sure if it was trying to be a sport bar, a grunge club, or what. Definitely worth a visit though. Came here with a few friends later on a Saturday.
The bar setup is really pretty cool, you're outside but covered from rain at the same time. The inside has a pretty rustic feel to it and the decor is interesting. Unfortunately, the server when I was there was quite rude. I could tell she was under a lot of pressure running around, but at the same time it was not necessary to give attitude for no reason. Nonetheless, we grabbed a few drinks and had a good time, there are several small games to play ping pong, basketball, etc.
They give you a free pizza with every drink which is really cool, however it takes about 30 minutes to get the pizza and the line was short so I could just imagine how long it could be at times.
Not a bad little pizza for free though! Just an overall awesome place to go to grab some drinks and hang out with friends!! There is no real food but they have some awesome personal pizza that come FREE with your drinks! Don't forget to get the ticket from the bartender and line up quick because the wait can be long! The service is slow but that's because of how busy the place gets. It's bearable and you just have to push your way through the crowd and to the nearest bar and there are plenty of bars to choose from!
The cost and environment is that of a bar- nothing different! There is a uniqueness to this place because of how it is decorated! So many interesting objects on the walls and ceilings. There's even an area you can go to where you can play games and etc!
This place is always one of my top 5 bars to go to when around the area! Love the decor, good music on weekends. Usually packed but the crowd is mellow. Definitely a fun place for a night out with buddies.
This place attracts a trashy crowd and the bouncers are unnecessarily rude and aggressive. I saw them literally drag multiple people out by their shirts unwarranted. I'd understand if people were being rowdy or resisting, but that simply wasn't the case.
It was just an abuse of power used to basically degrade people and treat them like animals. Not really a good way to treat paying customers. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. This place is so cool, friendly, and good selection of beers. We've been there for the cheap bloody mary's on the weekend mornings, as well as afternoon and evening. Everytime whether it's busy, or quiet Love the exterior and I hope the town never ever wins their battle in the attempt to make them change the facade.
This place was here long before the luxury residents moved in, and it's part of why Asbury Park has its charm. Buy a drink, get a free personal pizza or an omelette if you're brunching --what more do I really need to say? Come whenever crowded or not , you get free pizza which song half bad , plus drink prices aren't insane. The outdoor beer garden is perfect. Feels way less crowded vs back in bed the "old" days.
Great spot to cool with friends. This isn't a dance spot if that's what you're looking for. More like a, all your old friends are back in town, let's go to Johnny Mac's cuz we're still poor and have a lot of reminiscing to do type of spot. Also, bring cash to tip the pizza guy who works furiously all night as everyone gives him dirty looks and constantly asks him when the pizza will be done.
Kicked one of our group out when he was literally just standing there sipping on a beer. Incredibly rude bartender as well. This place could be a great night out, but the staff is horrendous. That is a new one! You can spend hours looking at all the decor from the history to all the riddles.
I don't go to bars often, I have only been to 2 including this one. The guy checking IDs had no right to check mine 2 times. Then you try and rip, or bend a real ID 2 times. You think you're going to get a different outcome the second time. You looked at my face 5 times. That's my first complaint. The pizza was okay. I had some kind of long island lemonade, a Manhattan and a shot.
The waitress, Stephanie was very nice at first. See how I said at first? After I, the customer paid my bill, she accused me of something I was very unaware about, bar etiquette. The service was fine until you tried to get more money put of me and the questions she asked me made me feel like I did something so wrong.
Get a new job if you want more money, the tips you make aren't my problem. And learn bar etiquette? I'm in a bar some high end restaurant. Like I said, work for your money and it will be given to you. She tried to hustle me for more and she didn't get it and she never will see a tip from me.
But sure enough, when you buy a drink you get a ticket to bring over to the pizza bar in the back to redeem a free personal pizza.
I don't really understand how or why they do this- but I love it so I'm not questioning it. I had a plain pie and it was delicious.
